Should you freeze flour?

To extend the shelf life of your flour you can put it in the freezer. Generally, by doing so it will extend the shelf life by about 3 months. How do I read the product’s manufacturing code?

The manufacturing code is the date the product was made. It should look something like this:

13 365 548 15:30 5439 or 3 365 628A 1438

  • The first one or two numbers represent the year it was made. For instance, the 13 or 3 in our example codes means it was made in 2013. A number 12 or 2 would mean it was made in 2012, and so on.
  • The next three numbers represent the day of the year the product was made. In our example, the 365 (or three hundred and sixty-fifth day of the year) is December 31.
  • The following sets of numbers are further plant codes (i.e. plant number, time of production, etc.) and have nothing to do with the date of manufacture.

Nutri Flour Blend

How is Robin Hood Nutri Flour Blend Gluten Free different from your other flour varieties?

Robin Hood Nutri Flour Blend Gluten Free is our first gluten free flour blend, formulated and designed using ingredients that do not contain the proteins forming gluten.

Will my regular wheat flour-based recipes work the same using gluten free flour?

Our Robin Hood Nutri Flour Blend Gluten Free is an All Purpose flour blend and can be used for any gluten free baking or cooking requirement. We recommend using this flour in specifically altered gluten free recipes, to help ensure results similar to using a regular flour.

If you substitute Robin Hood Nutri Flour Blend Gluten Free for regular flour in an existing recipe, the result will likely not be the same. Additionally, other ingredients in the recipe may contain gluten.

For a variety of gluten free recipes, visit robinhood.ca.

Is Robin Hood Nutri Flour Blend Gluten Free made in the same facility as your Robin Hood wheat-based flours?

Yes. Smucker Foods of Canada Corp. has established the following stringent criteria for making “gluten free” claims, based on CFIA’s Food and Drug Regulations: Health Canada’s proposed rules:

Ingredient Screening - Ingredients cannot contain gluten sources such as from wheat, oats, rye, barley, triticale or their derivatives or hybrids of these, nor any form of protein derived from them.

Testing – Products are tested to verify that they are gluten free.

Manufacturing Procedures – we employ a comprehensive gluten management program. All equipment used in the manufacture of products containing any gluten source must be thoroughly cleaned prior to producing a product that is “gluten-free.” These procedures are validated and inspected after each clean-up.

Why isn’t the bag filled to the top?

Our manufacturing process dictates the fill height. The net product weight meets or exceeds the weight clearly marked on each resealable bag.

Does the bag have an “easy tear” opening?

To open, simply cut along the designated line on the back of the bag below the words, “Cut Strip to Open.”

Where did the closure technology come from?

The packaging for Robin Hood Nutri Flour Blend Gluten Free features the Grip-LockTM resealable system for easy opening and closing, with minimal alignment needed.

Does GMO cause gluten intolerance?

For many years, agricultural science has developed and grown crops using biotechnology to produce a more economical and dependable quality food supply. Certain varieties of corn and soybean plants, for example, have been developed to be more disease-and weather-resistant and require less use of pesticides as a result of biotechnology. Numerous health and scientific organizations including the American Medical Association, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and the National Academy of Sciences have determined that foods grown with modern biotechnology are safe.
