Loved the idea of mayan chocolate cookies, I love the combination of spice and chocolate. unfortunately when I made them, everyone told me they are missing something. they taste ok but you feel they are incomplete. I had to try different things and recipes till I came up with my own.

I tried backing off on the cinnamon - reduced to 1 tsp - and the reviews went from "so so - too much cinnamon" to "wow - these are fantastic!". These have now become part of Christmas tradition.

These cookies are just delicious!! Baked 2 trays and froze the rest of the dough balls. This is a keeper, one of the best cookie recipe for sure.

I bake a lot of cookies and this has to be one of the best! I made a batch and froze the dough balls. Baked right from the freezer for an extra 5 minutes - heaven!

Easy to make, lovely rich looking dough. Next time I'll add another pinch of cayenne pepper. They end up looking exactly like the photo.
