Hot Chocolate Brownies

Get your kids and make these scrumptious brownies together. Just like a steaming cup of hot chocolate, they aren’t complete without a sprinkling of marshmallows on top.

Ingredients

Brownies

1/2 cup 125 mL butter
2/3 cup 150 mL milk chocolate chips
3/4 cup 175 mL granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp 5 mL vanilla extract
3/4 cup 175 mL Robin Hood® Original All Purpose Flour
2 tbsp 30 mL cocoa powder
Pinch salt
2/3 cup 150 mL milk chocolate chips

Topping

1 cup 250 mL miniature marshmallows
1/3 cup 75 mL milk chocolate chips

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350ºF (180ºC). Line 8” (2L) baking pan with parchment paper, overlapping two sides for easy removal.
  2. Tip

    Get your bakers to help prepare the pan. Show them how you’ll be able to use the overlapped parchment paper as handles to help you remove the cooled brownies after they’re finished cooking. This way the brownies won’t break as you cut and take them out.

  3. Melt together butter and chocolate chips in top of double broiler. Cool slightly. Whisk in sugar. Whisk in eggs, one at a time and then vanilla.
  4. Tip

    Have your kids whisk in the ingredients and show them how the batter changes each time you add something else in.

  5. Stir in flour, cocoa powder, salt and chocolate chips.
  6. Pour into prepared pan.
  7. Bake in preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes or until just set (centre will still be moist), sprinkling with marshmallows and chocolate chips during last 5 minutes of baking. Cool in pan on rack.
  8. Tip

    Hold the bowl and let one of your helpers scrape the batter into the pan with a spatula.

    Tip

    While the brownies are baking, teach your kids how to measure out the marshmallows and chocolate chips. Learning has never tasted so good!
